Being aware of the hazards of tanning

The warnings are everywhere about exposure to UVA and UVB whether that be directly from the sun or from using tanning beds and sun lamps.  Hazards of tanning are real and should not be taken lightly.  Some scientists have started to suggest that there may be a link between UVA radiation and malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin concern. The hazards of tanning will only continue to grow in the future.

So other than possibly skin cancer, what are the other hazards of tanning?  Well, continuous exposure to UV radiation can damage one’s immune system making your susceptible to other illnesses.  Exposing your skin to these rays will cause it to age prematurely.  Wrinkles and lines will appear and your skin will take on a leathery, tough appearance.

We only need small amounts of sunshine for our body’s to produce the required vitamin D so you can’t use that as an excuse to lye in the sun all day.  With anything good comes risk.  It is important you understand the hazards of tanning before you head outdoors or to the tanning bed salon.  So if you want to continue to look young and live a long time, cover up and use sunscreen.
