Understanding the effects of tanning

Controversy has been ranging for years about the effects of tanning and the use of tanning beds.  Is tanning safe?  According to many studies and a number of medical associates, the answer is no.  Over exposure to UVA rays can definitely result in long term skin damage.  Studies show that tanning beds actually give off almost 3 times more UVA radiation than the sun.  The effects of tanning are significant.

One of the worst and leading effects of tanning is skin cancer or more specifically, malignant melanoma, which is the worst type.  Skin cancer can be fatal and should not be taken lightly.  Most medical articles written regarding indoor tanning beds say they are directly linked to skin cancer.  Long exposure to UV rays will damage skin cells causing the skin to appear leathery and weathered.

Other effects of tanning also include premature wrinkling of the skin, appearance of lines and crows feet, and it can also damage one’s immune system.  These are the risks you face for that bronzed look.  But there are safe alternatives that include airbrush tanning, as well as tanning sprays and lotions.  You don’t need to harm your skin to look good.
